We interview Lars, CEO and founder of RSG Maskinteknikk – a Norwegian company with more than 13 years of experience in drilling rigs and drilling equipment. RSG primarily works with service and maintenance of drilling rigs in the Østland region of Norway.
Their services include everything from troubleshooting and spare parts to installation of hydraulics, wear parts, electronics, as well as systems and sensors from Transtronic’s product portfolio. In this industry, downtime is extremely costly and the work is often carried out in difficult terrain – which makes a partner like RSG invaluable to customers. RSG can quickly reach customers with a fully equipped service vehicle to resolve most problems on site and ensure that the operator can continue working.

How did you get in contact with us, and why did you choose Transtronic?
Transtronic’s systems were already being used by our customers, and we came into contact through service needs. As customers contacted us for troubleshooting, repairs, and installations, it became natural for us to strengthen our collaboration with Transtronic. Today we operate as an established reseller and technical partner. Together we carry out joint projects and find smart solutions to problems for our customers.
How long has the collaboration been going on?
Now approximately 8 years, since 2018.
Case: Customized solution for a railway project
During 2025, a unique project was carried out where we, together with Transtronic, developed a completely customized solution for a customer who needed to drill grounding holes along a railway. The customer’s work involved certain requirements in order to operate close to the railway’s power lines. Carrying out infrastructure projects of this nature for government and public authorities always involves strict safety requirements. It is also very dangerous for the drilling operator, as these power lines can electrify the entire drilling rig in the event of contact or an accident.
The requirements in practice meant creating clear technical limitations for the rig, including:
- The drill could not be electrically conductive
- Boom swing needed to be limited sideways so that it could not swing to the side and come into contact with the power line above the railway
RSG and Transtronic therefore programmed and tested a completely customized system with these functions. The final result, after a period of testing and programming, was a successful project for the end customer Petter A Olsen AS, who was then able to successfully drill along the railway with minimal safety risk.
Which products and solutions do you work with?
At RSG, we are responsible for the overall solution in practice. Either we recommend Transtronic for increased efficiency and safety, or the request comes from Transtronic. Customers want help with installation, training, and proper use of Transtronic’s products. Our job is to ensure that customers get started and get the most out of the systems. After that, we work together with Transtronic to service customers, find special solutions, and continuously provide aftermarket support in the form of spare parts and software updates.
- Systems – different types of inclinometers
- Sensors – the angle sensor is the most common
Sometimes customers request complete systems with an inclinometer and sensors – in those cases we build this directly onto the rig, regardless of the machine’s brand or model year. Our view is that we can help most customers modernize and improve the efficiency of their work.
What concrete results have been achieved in terms of increased efficiency, profitability, and similar outcomes?
Our customers see many benefits connected to Transtronic’s products. Some examples are listed below:
Saves money through reduced wear on drill steel and machines
Because the products provide precise data, corrective drilling is significantly reduced. Getting it right from the start means that the machine does not have to work as hard, and both drill bits and rods last longer.
Avoid drilling too deep
Drilling too deep can create unnecessary follow-up work such as filling, which costs money and takes valuable time. With Transtronic this is generally avoided, helping customers meet deadlines and maintain the expected profitability of their projects.
Makes jobs more precise
Through the inclinometer, the operator can see exactly what is happening in the ground and adjust drilling based on incoming data. Crooked holes are very costly, which the angle sensor helps prevent. In addition, customers can easily verify this before blasting using Transtronic’s probe.
How have our service and availability been experienced?
The service and collaboration with Transtronic are excellent. As an experienced service partner we are relatively self-sufficient, but in this industry unique situations and challenges always arise. When that happens, we know that support is just a phone call away, which provides good backup. Today, most contact happens when purchasing products and spare parts or when we need to develop a special solution for a customer.
Would you recommend Transtronic?
Yes, absolutely.
Additional comments
Very good service. You get help when you call. No phone queues. Spare parts in stock. Things are always available and it is very quick to receive the equipment.
